Kadalai Curry

IngredientsServings: 6

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 5 gloves garlic
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • 1 medium size onion finely chopped
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 medium size tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups cooked black channa
For Grinding
  • 2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder
  • 2 tsp corriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut
  • water as needed
Prep Channa
  • 2 cups black channa
  • soak for 8 hrs in 4 cups of water

Kadalai curry is a delicious and flavorful curry made with black chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, coconut and with warming spices.

Instructions

  • soak 2 cups of black channa in 4 cups of water for 8 hours
  • add soaked channa, 1 tsp salt, 4 cups of water into instant pot and pressure cook for 20 minutes OR add to pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles
  • in a pan add 1 tsp oil add 1 tsp chilli powder, 2 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 cup coconut and fry for few minutes
  • add to mixer jar and grind the above ingredients into a thick paste
  • in a large pan add 2 tbsp oil, once the oil is heated add sliced garlic,sliced ginger, slit green chillies, curry leaves, sliced onion and fry until onions are soft
  • add sliced tomatoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and mix well
  • add cooked black channa and mix well
  • add ground coconut paste, add 1 cup of water and mix well
  • adjust water, salt as per taste and boil for 5 to 10 minutes on medium flame
  • turn off the stove and add chopped cilantro
  • yummy kadalai curry is ready which can be served with puttu!!!!!
Tips & Tricks
  • use heavy bottom pan to avoid burning the dish

Step by Step Instructions
