Aloo Gobi

  • 3 tbsp cooking oil or butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp corriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp ginger & garlic paste(optional)
  • 2 medium size potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 medium size cauliflower
  • 1 medium size onion(optional)
  • 2 medium size tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 tsp sugar(optional)
  • 2 cups water
  • salt as needed
  • 1/4 tsp kasthuri methi(optional)

Aloo gobi is a vegetarian dish from the Indian subcontinent made with potatoes (aloo), cauliflower (gobi), and Indian spices.It is cooked with a mixture of onions, tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste, green chilies and some spices into a savory, tangy and satisfying dish which goes well with roti, chapati, phulka, paratha or bun.

Instructions

  • peel and cube potatoes
  • cut onions and tomatoes into small pieces
  • in a pan add 3 tbsp cooking oil and add cumin seeds
  • once cumin seeds have turned light brown color add chopped onions
  • fry until onions are soft and turns light brown
  • add ginger & garlic paste and saute for less than a minute
  • add tomatoes and all the spices(masala powders), salt and saute for a minute
  • add cubed potatoes and cauliflower florets
  • add 1 cup water, mix well and close the lid cook for 10 minutes or until potatoes are soft and mushy, on medium low flame
  • stir in between and adjust the water as required
  • turn off the stove, add chopped cilantro and kasthuri methi(optional)
  • yummy aloo gobi is ready which can be served with roti, chappathi, paratha, naan or bun!!!!!
Tips & Tricks
  • use heavy bottom pan to avoid burning the dish

Step by Step Instructions

  1. in a pan add 3 tbsp cooking oil and add cumin seeds once cumin seeds have turned light brown color add chopped onions

  2. fry until onions are soft and turns light brown add ginger & garlic paste and saute for less than a minute then add tomatoes

  3. add all the spices(masala powders), salt and saute for a minute

  4. cook until tomatoes are soft

  5. add cubed potatoes and cauliflower florets and a cup of water, mix well and close the lid cook for 10 minutes or until potatoes are soft and mushy, on medium low flame

  6. yummy aloo gobi is ready which can be served with roti, chappathi, paratha, naan or bun!!!!!
