Paruppu Podi

  • 1/2 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 cup bengal Gram - roasted
  • 10 pieces whole red chillies
  • 1 tsp salt ( as per taste)
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 2 cloves peeled garlic (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp pepper corn

Paruppu podi is a delicious healthy lentil powder which can go with hot white rice mixed with ghee OR side dish as dosai, idli and other tiffin items. It is a protein rich dish.

Instructions

  • in a pan add toor dal and dry fry until it turns light golden color, keep it aside
  • in the same pan add 1/2 tsp ghee and add chillies, pepper corn, cumin, garlic (optional) and asafoetida fry it for 1 minute and keep it aside
  • turn off the stove, add bengal Gram - roast and dry fry for few minutes
  • in a blender add all the fried ingredients, add salt and grind it into a powder
  • this can be served with hot rice with ghee!!
Tips & Tricks
  • be careful not to burn any of the ingredients otherwise the podi will have burnt taste
